Spanish Vocabulary List: Clothing

©RCAguilar
OBJECTIVE:
Know how to tell the person on the phone what you're wearing. Cave-man descriptions don't work over the phone ...
TASK:
Go through your closet and tell yourself what you see. Put your laundry in the washing machine item by item, and say out loud what's going in next.
PERPLEXED?
Nudist ???
¿Cuánto cuesta ?
That's how you ask "How much does it cost?" in Spanish. Could be useful if you're going to travel.
Clothing in Spain is much less costly than in the United States. It's also pretty much the same in Central American countries, too. If you're going to travel, know what you want beforehand, and saying it in Spanish will get you an even better price!

Mono de seda -
Mono se queda.

[You can dress a monkey in silk,
... it's still a monkey!]

Recommended practice to learn these words:
Pretend you're getting dressed for different occasions and name items of clothing saying: "Me pongo (item)."

Me pongo las botas.
Me pongo los pantalones.
Me pongo los calcetines.
Me pongo los calzones.
Me pongo la camisa.
Me pongo los zapatos.

This is saying: "I'm putting on (item)." Keep the el, la, los, las with each item in this practice.

Go down the entire list of clothes and SAY THIS OUT LOUD for each item that you do indeed own & wear!

Pretend you're undressing and name each item as you say: "Me quito (item)."

Me quito las botas.
Me quito los pantalones.
Me quito los calcetines.
Me quito los calzones.
Me quito la camisa.
Me quito los zapatos.

This is saying: "I'm taking off (item)." Keep the el, la, los, las with each item in this practice.
Go down the entire list of clothes and SAY THIS OUT LOUD for each item that you do indeed own & wear!

Listen to each sound file and state if it's for a man, woman, or child. Say: "Esto es para hombres," to say "This is for men." Say "Esto es para mujeres," to say "This is for women." Say "Esto es para niños," to say "This is for children."
Add color to your clothes! Refer to the colors page if you need to, and describe your wardrobe. Say: "Tengo (item) (color)." Tengo pantalones azules. This is saying "I have blue pants." Tengo zapatos negros. "I have black shoes." For simplicity's sake, use the plural form of the clothing, as well as the plural forms of the adjectives. Don't forget to use masculine adjectives with masculine nouns, and feminine adjectives with feminine nouns! Omit the el, la, los, las with each item in this practice.
